EarthData adds second Leica ADS40 to its technology offerings
January 13, 2004
Atlanta, Georgia, USA - EarthData Holdings (Washington, DC, USA), has purchased a second Leica ADS40 Airborne Digital Sensor to use in airborne imagery acquisition projects. EarthData, which purchased its first ADS40 in March 2003, has seen a significant rise in demand for digital imagery over the year. The rise in demand for digital imagery, coupled with the great success of recent ADS40 projects led the company to acquire a second ADS40 sensor.
In July 2003, EarthData collaborated with its affiliate, Horizons, Inc. (Rapid City, South Dakota, USA) and its business partner North West Geomatics Ltd. (NWG) (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) on the largest digital project completed to date. The companies collected aerial imagery of the entire state of Nebraska for the USDA's National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP), including imagery of over 90,000mi2 or 5,900 Digital Ortho Quarter Quads (DOQQs) of agricultural land.
In September 2003, EarthData again collaborated with NWG to acquire imagery of 27 eastern North Carolina counties, to assess coastline damage caused by Hurricane Isabel. With the ADS40, EarthData has also successfully provided true ortho-photos to cities and counties throughout the United States.
"EarthData has had outstanding results with the combined use of the Leica ADS40 and the ISTAR® processing system and is proving that the role of digital sensors will continue to expand quickly in our industry," said Bryan Logan, Chairman and CEO, EarthData. "With the addition of a second ADS40 to our technology offerings, we further strengthen EarthData's position as a leader in this revolutionary field."
"Our industry is starting to see the incredible results generated with the ADS40 and is clearly ready to put this new technology to use," said George Southard, Regional Director- Americas, Leica Geosystems GIS & Mapping. "EarthData has already established a successful track record with aerial film cameras such as the Leica RC30 and Leica Geosystems is delighted to help EarthData continue its success in the digital imagery acquisition market."
A geospatial information company for 48 years, EarthData provides complete mapping and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) solutions. EarthData has been a leader in digital orthophotography and softcopy photogrammetry development for the past decade. The company owns a total of seven hardware units from Leica Geosystems, including two ALS40 LIDAR systems, three Leica RC30 Aerial Film Cameras and two ADS40 sensors.
EarthData has begun flying its newest ADS40 sensor throughout the United States.
