3D City Models
Fugro EarthData's 3D city models incorporate all of the important massing details of a city's buildings, along with topographically accurate ground features. Our city models are comprehensive in both detail and coverage, providing professionals in media, architecture, urban planning, engineering, and government markets a powerful tool for understanding urban geography.

Advantages
- Data-rich. The 3D city models contain intelligent building features that are organized in a robust building data model. All building features are uniquely tagged and layered.
- Real map products. Accurate to within 1m, the 3D city models are developed using photogrammetric mapping methods. The cities are modeled at their true elevation and are projected in mapping coordinates.
- Easily updated. The 3D city models are building objects that easily can be manipulated and replaced with newer schemes or plans for development purposes.
- User-friendly. Available in a variety of formats, customers can incorporate the 3D city models into existing CAD, GIS, or visualization systems for a wide range of important analyses.
- Cities nationwide. Having already developed 3D city models for major US metropolitan areas, Fugro EarthData offers customers instant access to valuable urban datasets. Fugro EarthData also has the capability to quickly build new 3D city models for areas of interest not yet developed.
Capabilities
- Accuracy.Linked to information databases from many different sources, the highly detailed 3D city models are prepared using photogrammetric methods and are accurate to within 1m of the actual physical landscape.
- Features. The models include intelligent building features such as rooftop mechanicals, floor plates, sidewalks, footprints, and parapets that are uniquely addressable in a geo-referenced database. In addition to the building-centric detail, the city models contain topographically accurate ground features such as sidewalks, waterways, bridges, and parks.
- Update methods. The object-based nature of Fugro EarthData's 3D city models makes updates quick and easy and provides an effective way to accurately study "what-if" scenarios for proposed developments. As an essential data source for performing a variety of simulations and analyses, the 3D city models also support environmental impact assessments, shadow studies, flood inundation, plume dispersion, and provide overall situation awareness in event planning and training rehearsal.
Products
3D city models and specific data layers are licensed for an entire city or on a block-by-block basis. Users can access the data in standard CAD, GIS, and visualization formats. Additionally, Fugro EarthData can create thematic map graphics for media customers based on the 3D city models. Available in high resolution image formats, our thematic map graphics have been featured in international publications including Newsweek, Time, The New York Times, US News and World Report, and The Washington Post.
